Our Passion – Helping Students Achieve Their College Dreams.
At the SCC Educational Foundation, we’re passionate about supporting our students most in need. So we’re excited to tell you about our Giving Tuesday campaign to help fund scholarships for SCC students.  Educating students from our local communities can truly make an impact. Most students at Solano Community College receive some form of financial aid, but many need additional assistance for the things many of us take for granted, such as transportation, personal computers, and paper and ink for printing college assignments. Despite these obstacles, these students taking the initiative and working hard to improve their future. Funding a scholarship is a meaningful way to provide a helping hand up and make a lasting impact!

Student Testimonials – Scholarships Help Students Achieve Their College Dreams.

Kenny Koby Chavez a full-time Sociology major at Solano College commented; “Receiving my scholarships will help me because I won’t have to worry about paying for classes and class materials. I have had to drop classes I need because I couldn’t afford the book access codes that my professors used. They say it is “not that bad”, but not everyone has the same income. I want to stop delaying my future and the opportunity to transfer because I can’t afford class materials, including books. Sometimes it feels embarrassing having to share with my professors about my current situation just so that they give me an extension to buy class materials. But I end up falling behind and it adds more stress. With a scholarship, I will be able to reach my fullest potential as a college student. Most importantly, I won’t be in college debt either.”

Maekaelagail Santos added her presentive about the impact of a scholarship; “As a child of immigrant parents, I learned to take responsibilities for my family and myself. I am so thankful to donors for funding a scholarship at Solano. The impact of a scholarship is to enable students to reflect on how far they have come, giving them a little boost for the future and for them to take the world in their hands and do something great with it. I believe education is an avenue we take on the way to the highway of life. Your worth is in how much positive impact you do for others. What have you done, what will you do and how will this boost get you to where you need to go.”

Leave a Legacy – Honor an Important Person in Your Life Through a Scholarship

For those considering larger investments, consider creating a new scholarship named after you, a company, or a person you’d like to honor. The amount to establish a scholarship varies from just $250 for a one time scholarship to $10,000 for an endowed (perpetual) scholarship. Donors have the option of creating scholarships with customized student selection criteria. For example, a donor may select an area of study/major, eligibility criteria such as GPA or minimum units per semester, and financial need and/or academic success.  Three recent examples are the Valero Benicia Refinery Endowed Scholarship for Liberty High Students (check presentation pictured below), and two endowed scholarships; the Stephanie L. Brennan Endowed Scholarship for single mothers attending SCC , and Chip Carter Boyz Garage Endowed Scholarship (both pictured above).

Why Scholarships Help Transform Lives:

  • Small scholarships make a huge difference to students struggling financially. These students need help with books, transportation, and other college expenses.
  • It’s critical for students to stay enrolled, because the likelihood of unemployment increases significantly without a College Degree or Certificate.
  • Students who earn a degree or certificate from a California Community College nearly double their earnings within three years.
