Expanding Automotive Technician Program – Driven by Industry Demand

SCC reestablished its Automotive Technician degree and certificate program in the Spring 2013 to complement the existing auto body and hybrid/alternative fuel programs.  Students will have the option to earn an Associate of Science Degree, or Certificate in the following:

  • Powertrain
  • Electronics
  • Emissions
  • Undercar
  • Hybrid and Alternative Fuels

Curriculum will include:

  • Suspension and Steering
  • Electrical Systems and Electronics
  • Brake Systems
  • Engine Repair
  • Engine Performance & Advance Performance
  • Automatic Transmissions and Transaxles
  • Manual Transmission, Transaxles & Drivetrain
  • Heating and Air Conditioning
  • Hybrid Auto Maintenance and Repair
  • Alternative Fuel Vehicles
  • Smog Technician Training
  • Automotive Service Advising

Students will be trained to take the following ASE Certification Examinations:

  • A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, C1, & G1
  • Plus State Smog Inspector & Smog Check Repair Technician License Examination

The SCC Auto Tech Program is moving from a leased facility to a new 30,000 sq. ft. facility at the SCC Vallejo Center. The project is funded by voter approved Measure Q. This will double the size of the facility and allow student enrollment to grow. The program has a partnership with Snap-On Tools as a part of the National Coalition of Certifications Centers. The partnership provides access to Snap-On products including tools, diagnostic and wheel equipment, software, curriculum, web-based training sessions, student tracking database, and promotional materials.
