Few things in life make an impact as powerful as education. It is the great equalizer in our society, and provides the less fortunate a path to achieve career goals, regardless how lofty or seemingly impossible. But it’s not easy and it takes years of hard work and perseverance. At the SCC Educational Foundation, our mission is to provide a helping hand up to students struggling financially to stay enrolled in college.

With this in mind, the SCC Annual Benefit Gala was established to recognize an outstanding College program each year. In 2022, the gala celebrated the opening of the new Library and Learning Resource Center on the Fairfield campus and recognized the history of literary arts at the College. As in past years, we also recognized a new class of SCC Distinguished Alumni.

A Fun Cocktail Party! The gala was a fun cocktail event with hors d’oeuvres by Chef Daniel Bell and live entertainment by Ramana Vieira and Ensemble. Ramana is described as the “New Voice of Portuguese World Music.” The band features ballads of Fado to American classics and jazzy blues. Members also include Jeff Furtado, David Parker and Earl Jackson. Following the cocktail hour, the program celebrated literary arts at SCC, including Quinton Duval who contributed to the success and reputation of the College. We also recognized Facility Naming donors for the Library, as well as the sixth class of SCC Distinguished Alumni.

Naming Donations.  Making a donation to the new Library is a meaningful way to leave a legacy and honor an important person in your life, your family, or organization. The 59,000 sq. ft. building presents options for naming starting at $500 for a study desk, $2500 for a small group study room, and more for large rooms such as the TV studio and ASTC. Why The Building Will Impact Future Generations of Students

The new building encompasses the functions and features of a modern academic Library and Learning Resource Center. In addition to an array of digital and print Library resources, it also contains the Academic Success and Tutoring Center (ASTC), computer commons, group and individual/quiet study rooms, audio visual arts and television studio, and the college data center.

Why is this important? The spaces, services, and people within the new Library and Learning Resource Center are critical to the success of students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds and families without a history of attending college. Under one roof, students can immerse themselves in a supportive environment that includes:

• Spaces to gather, study and complete homework;
• Access to Librarians, instructional assistants and instructors;
• Tutoring for individuals and groups (by appointment or drop-in);
• Course materials such as textbooks, plus digital and physical research resources;
• Research instruction and student success workshops;
• Access to computers and printers; plus
• Help with online access to classes, assignments and student records.

A New Class of SCC Distinguished Alumni

As in past years, we’ll also recognize a new class of SCC Distinguished Alumni and consider their impact in our community. They are leaders in business, education, the arts, government, and nonprofit organizations. Through their association with Solano Community College they promote the value of educational excellence, inspire others to reach their potential, encourage personal growth, and promote the enrichment of life through education and community service.

All net proceeds from the 2022 Annual Benefit Gala will support program of the SCC Educational Foundation, including endowed scholarships for students in need of financial assistance to stay enrolled in College.
